UMass Boston Unveils Major Upgrades to Clark Athletic Center
UMass Boston is proud to celebrate the grand reopening of the Clark Athletic Center following a comprehensive renovation project that ushers in a new era for Beacon Athletics. The upgraded facility represents a major investment in the university’s commitment to student-athletes, coaches, and the broader campus community.
The large-scale renovation has transformed the Clark Athletic Center into a modern, unified hub for athletics, featuring state-of-the-art locker rooms, coach and staff offices, and cutting-edge technology enhancements. The facility is designed to foster greater collaboration, communication, and community within UMass Boston Athletics.
“This project is about more than just bricks and mortar — it’s about building a better future for our student-athletes and advancing the legacy of excellence of our alumni,” said Dr. Jacqueline Schuman, vice chancellor and director of Athletics at UMass Boston. “The enhancements to the Clark Athletic Center ensure we’re providing first-class resources that match the excellence of our programs.”
Highlights of the Renovation and Additional Capital Improvements Include:
- Four brand-new locker rooms featuring modern amenities, enhanced privacy, and functionality for UMass Boston’s varsity teams.
- Eighteen offices centrally located to streamline operations and support a more connected athletics community.
- Upgraded common areas and a new multipurpose room that create a welcoming, flexible environment for athletes, coaches, and visiting teams.
- High-definition video boards in both the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink and Clark Gymnasium, delivering live stats, instant replays, and dynamic game-day presentations for an elevated fan experience.
These improvements underscore UMass Boston’s growing investment in its NCAA Division III programs and reflect a broader effort to create inspiring, high-performance spaces that ignite pride and school spirit. A longstanding pillar of Beacon pride, the revitalized Clark Athletic Center is now poised to support the next generation of UMass Boston student-athletes, fans, and university milestones.
