Before being inducted into the RockGodz Hall of Fame in Hollywood, California on Thursday, guitar legend and Lowell native Gary Hoey coached the 21 members of UMass Boston’s Pop/Rock Ensemble. Here he listens to, and then gives advice to One Credit Later, playing Ray Charles’s “(Night Time Is) The Right Time.”

To receive the award, students must be Massachusetts residents graduating from one of the 29 state universities and community colleges who plan to continue living and working in the state after graduation. Winners plan to pursue a career in a needed field in the commonwealth, work at a startup, or take on a community service role.
